Our History
Seven Decades of
Indonesian Cycling
The Indonesian Cycling Federation (PB ISSI โ Pengurus Besar Ikatan Sport Sepeda Indonesia) was established in 1956 in Jakarta, becoming one of the earliest national sporting bodies in the Republic of Indonesia. Founded by a collective of regional cycling clubs, PB ISSI was created to unify and regulate competitive cycling across the archipelago.
In those years of independence and nation-building, cycling held a unique cultural significance โ serving as both a sport of the people and a symbol of mobility and progress. The federation secured formal affiliation with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), establishing a direct platform for Indonesian cyclists on the world stage.
Over the following decades, PB ISSI expanded its reach across all 34 provinces, developing structured competition pathways at the regional, national, and international level. Indonesian cyclists have represented the nation at the Olympic Games, Asian Games, South East Asian Games, and UCI World Championships across multiple disciplines.
Today, PB ISSI governs six competitive disciplines โ Road, Track, Mountain Bike, BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, and Para-Cycling โ and administers the national licensing system for over 12,000 registered riders and officials annually.
